    On a clear day, you can see forever, and even pretend you are Maria from The Sound of Music! But this is not the place for folly. To anybody or party caught out by a pea-souper here, the name is apt: the wind slashes and bites, howling around snow poles and screaming down into the gullies. It is haunting in its airy, open ruggedness that betrays how utterly bleak and dangerous it is when the weather turns and there is zero visibility. I have made three Bogong ascents and crossings to Cleve Cole: 1988 (first, blizzard, whiteout then blue skies), 1992 (thunderstorm with nearby lightning) and 2017 (hot as ... well, Hell Gap!!). One of life's great Bucket List walks!
